Horse Butte

Today we drove out on an adventure. We went with Greg and Kelly through the Deschutes Forest. We decided to go off roading and drove up this huge butte where people take their dirt bikes. We noticed this other butte off in the distance and decided to drive to that butte and explore the fire lookout tower on the top. After a steep hike we were on top of Horse Butte watching a beautiful sunset. The forest fires in the area have really clouded the sky causing a smokey sunset in this picture. We were excited to see the forest fire lookout that was supposed to be on top of Horse Butte, but what we had seen off in the distance was actually a half dead tree. This tree had limbs that branched out like floors of a building. One whole side of the tree had absolutely no pine needles and the other side was filled like a normal thriving tree. We are slowly discovering more and more beautiful places in Central Oregon..... all of you reading this should actually come and visit and see them yourself. but until then we will continue adding new stuff to our blog.
